What is the difference between a BADN policy and a Direct policy?

Trafalgar has been working with the ‘British Institute of Dental Nurses’ (BADN) for over 13 years, offering tailor made policies to members of the group. In 2020, Trafalgar Risk Management introduced the ability for dental nurses who are not members of the BADN, to purchase the policy through Trafalgar, however the Direct policy does not include the additional benefits that are available to BADN members.

 

The ’BADN’ dental nurses’ policy –

The policy offered through Trafalgar Risk Management contains two sections of cover:

• Medical Malpractice Insurance with a level of cover of £1,000,000 through the insurer ‘CFC’.
• GDC Disciplinary & Investigation Protection Insurance with a level of cover of £100,000 through the insurer ‘ARAG PLC’.

 

The policy also includes a free ‘Medico Legal Helpline’ for any general legal queries (for example employment queries), to help with any queries or concerns that you may have throughout the policy period.

Trafalgar has been able to create the policy with the insurers to suit the exact needs and requirements of dental nurses and GDC requirements, and offer this policy to members of the BADN at a discounted rate:

 

Basic Duties: £70.65 Inc. IPT*

Extended Duties: £76.25 Inc. IPT*

Maternity: £43.21 Inc. IPT*

The Direct policy through Trafalgar –

In 2020, Trafalgar Risk Management started offering the insurance policy that was previously only available to members of the BADN, to all dental nurses, including non-BADN members.

However, these policies are offered at the original price (unlike the discounted BADN rate):

 

Basic Duties: £100.35 Inc. IPT*

Extended Duties: £105.95 Inc. IPT*

Maternity: £66.75 Inc. IPT*

In addition to being a non-discounted policy, the additional benefits offered through the BADN are not available on the Direct policy. However, this policy is available to any dental nurse, and you do not need to be a member of the BADN to purchase this policy.
