How do I update my policy from a Bookkeeper to Accountant?

Transitioning from an AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) Bookkeeper to an AAT Accountant involves a few steps to advance your qualifications, skills, and professional standing.

Once you have completed the necessary qualifications, apply for full AAT membership. This will grant you the MAAT (Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians) status, recognizing you as a fully qualified accounting technician.

As an AAT Accountant, you will be eligible for a wider range of accounting roles, potentially with higher responsibility and better remuneration.

Trafalgar has been offering tailor made policies to members of the AAT for many years, with tailor made policies created specifically for both AAT Bookkeeper members, and another for AAT Accountant members. Due to the different requirements, risks, and activities of each membership type, the two policies are different, and therefore rated differently.

If you currently hold a bookkeeper’s policy through Trafalgar, and now require an accountant’s policy, then please get in touch, and we can assist you in upgrading your policy (this may include a mid-term adjustment fee and a pro-rata premium increase).

However, if you have downgraded your licence from an Accountants policy to a bookkeeper policy, and need to update your current policy, please follow the below details:

1.     Login to your My Trafalgar Portal on www.aatpi.com and cancel your current Accountant policy. You will receive a pro-rata refund of any funds left remaining on your policy.

2.     Make sure to be logged out of your current My Trafalgar Portal (as this will be autosaved as an Accountants portal).

3.     Access the ‘Get a Quote’ page on our website www.aatpi.com and purchase a new policy as a bookkeeper moving forwards. You will receive a new My Trafalgar Portal once you have purchased your new policy.

It is imperative to make sure that you have the correct level of cover required. In the event of a claim arising, this will be one of the main things that an insurer will check when reviewing the claim.

If you have any queries or require any further information on the policies available to AAT members, please get in touch with us on trmadmin@trafalgar.uk.com or call us on 0333 8 000 000.
